About the event

Trouble shooting the Cylinder with Tanis

Begginers class

This class is the next step from the Mudslinging class if you are wanting to advance your wheel throwing skills or just want to become more skilled at making pots. The cylinder is the crawling before you walk in the clay world.

In this class you will learn how to wedge your clay, center on the wheel, and pull up walls. Which will enable you to produce a cylinder. Focus will be on practice, practice, practice. You will be making multiple cylinders and cutting them open to get a better understanding of how you are pulling up your walls. Ie. Evenly or not and thickness from the bottom to the top etc.

I will also show you how to reclaim your clay from your cut up cylinders, so you can practice more.

I will show you tricks to use to create a straight walled cylinder with not only your fingers but with a wooden rib and sponge.

The size of clay ball we will be mainly using will be 1 1/2 lbs or less. Easier for beginners and practicing.

Also long nails and rings can make it difficult to throw and please tie back long hair and tuck in long necklaces
