About the event
Sundays Jan 7 to Feb 25, 2024 4:30 to 6:45pm, 8 WEEKS
Now in it's 2nd year, class content has been updated and students can expect an even better individualized learning opportunity.
I will provide structured lessons focused on building upon your basic wheel throwing skills. This will help you grow from beginner to intermediate level. We will work on how to move clay up to “Get rid of the beginner bottom bulge!", make a personalized 'makers mark' stamp, learn pottery vocabulary, how to use different tools (e.g. ribs, throwing stick), pullling and extruding handles and explore making different shapes.
We will practice common ‘pot repair’ techniques at the leather hard and dry hard stage. .
Finally, two weeks will be devoted to glazing and decorating techniques at both the greenware and bisque stage. We will review pot preparations for dipping glazing, practice glazing techniques, how to use mason stains and underglaze (transfers/ pencils), wax resist, slips, sgraffito and Mishima.
NOTE: This class expands on basic skills. Should have at least 3- 4 months of pottery wheel throwing under your belt, with recent throwing & glazing experience. Taken a couple of beginner classes. Should be able to center and make a beginning Cylinder form. Class is for people who want to advance beyond the beginner throwing/glazing level. There is a waitlist being taken= email; pmcneice@shaw.ca.
Note: Masks are now optional. Still Sanitize when entering the studio. Bring your own apron and hand towels to take home please.
For your safety, tie long hair back. Cords on tops, ties or long jewelry must be tucked away. Long finger nails and rings may interfere with the outcome of your pot.
2024 is your year to advance your pottery practice! Come join us.
