Two Day Raku Obvara Firing Workshop by Linda Helms

Must have a current membership or a place to work on pieces for this class. Working on pieces early is recommended. Experience level : Adult Advanced Wheel Throwing and or Handbuilding 1st session is a 4 hr, demo in the studio, 2nd session is the Raku firing. Up to 6hrs for that day.

Friday April 4th , 1:30 to 5:30, 4hr demo, April 27, 9:30 am to 3:30pm. Raku firing day.
Obvara Firing : is an ancient Middle Eastern process of firing clay. This type of process does not require a glaze on a piece before firing. However, the bisque piece is fired in a raku kiln and the decoration of the surface happens after the pieces have been heated up using fermented flour, water, and yeast.
The first day of the workshop will take place Friday, April 4th, from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm. I will be demonstrating a particular wheel-throwing and hand-building technique using sodium silicate at The Hub studio. during a 4-hour period and participants will have time to throw or build some of their pieces at this time. However, you want to start creating some of your pieces before this demonstration as you need time for drying and bisquing.…
